WOOF: The voice of strays

“The greatness of the nation can be judged by the way its animals are treated”
                                                                        -Mahatma Gandhi

With the pandemic locking the whole World in their homes, one can say that the most affected are the people who live on streets or with no basic necessities available or the country i.e. going through its financial crisis, which are totally true! But most people are forgetting that it’s not only humans that are suffering alone, but it’s also the animals too especially strays who are often thrown stones at or neglected by the brutal people in the society. Yes, they are affected too by this evil COVID-19 pandemic disaster! There are people and many animal rescue centers and care centers that are taking care of the strays during this tight time, who are really appreciated!

But the point is, the stray animals especially the dogs and cats have been left out or neglected by the society way before. It’s not only strays, but few also happen to abandon their own pet animals, which is very cruel.

So speaking of the strays, especially our Indies dogs, who are treated real bad by most of the people, only because during the night they happen to sleep in their shelter or because of the barkings or simply because people tend to dislike them for no reason.

In the capital New Delhi, an unidentified man was caught on CCTV attacking a dog and killing a puppy outside a metro station. A housewife in the southern state of Karnataka smashed eight puppies on a boulder. In the northern state of Uttar Pradesh, a man in an inebriated state poured acid on five newborn puppies and their mother. The west-central state of Maharashtra registered a case in which a traffic police officer was arrested for the brutal assault on a stray dog, which led to permanent blindness in one eye. Around 50 community dogs were sedated with food laced with pesticides and then burned alive in the south-eastern state of Tamil Nadu.
All these incidents took place within the span of a month, with the last one occurring recently.
The increase in the population of stray dogs has made the situation worse. Dog bites are one of the common issues in residential areas and a big reason behind cruelty inflicted on them.

“Abandonment is a huge issue. Irresponsible pet ownership adds a huge amount of burden on the already existing huge population of street dogs. A lot of people think that dogs are just a matter of convenience, you can keep them for as long as you like them and leave them whenever you want.”

So, the point is, if humans have a right to live on this planet earth, so do the animals. They’ve to stop treating them like, they don’t belong on this planet.
If someone dislikes strays, then one doesn’t get the right to throw stones or water at those poor creatures. It’s high time to realize that, humans and animals have to coexist else, the environment is going to lose many domestic animals as well. So how can we help these animals?

Stray animals should be taken care of by residents of the respective streets, just by feeding them twice and keeping a bowl of water in front of the house can make a big difference to them.  All they need is food and love from humans and definitely not to be treated badly by us, humans.

There are dogs that happen to have a different behavior towards humans, which is mostly because of the trauma that had occurred to them, so those should be reported to animal centers instead of worsening their behavior by triggering them.

The government should make sure that all the dogs and cats get their rabies shot so that way at least, humans will stop being scared around them or won’t treat them bad. The government or rescuers or a volunteer should make sure that after the first birth of the dog or cat, they will be sterile in order to avoid the animal hoarding. Also, this regulates only limited dogs or cats in a street, which can be taken care of by residents or the rescue centers.

Another main issue is that strays dying of accidents, since its accident, there is nothing much to do that we can stop, well because it’s an accident. But what can be done is, once the dog or cat is being hit instead of running, one can stop and take the injured to hospital for the treatment.
So the issue being said,  these amazing youth with a lot of knowledge, trying to change the perspective towards the strays, by adopting the indies and supporting them with the help of the rescue centers. This is a BIG step!

So adopting is always better than shopping. But if one already has a dog or cat then don’t stop feeding your strays. This will form a kind of society where everyone can live in peace.  Always try to adopt indies because they are the most suitable for Indian climate and are very intelligent too.

Dogs or cats, Strays or pets, every animal and living creatures should be treated with respect and love, all the time then it makes the world a better place to live!!!

while we humans show cruelty towards them, some animal activists are tirelessly working to help those who cannot speak for themselves.

here are few animal laws you can read to know more about animal cruelty:

  2. I just loved the way you presented it.
Yeah! We humans have no rights to hurt them. All i hope is that the government should punish the dog killers and do them justice.

  4. We, humans keep forgetting that we are animals too, the worst kind. Reminders to coexist have unfortunately, become necessary rather than it being a way of life.
